The two part special featuring live scenes and a flashback episode of the death aired in February Around 10 months earlier, Lucy was killed with her lifeless body discovered in Walford Common – with several suspects named. It turned out the killer wasn’t even an official suspect, in one of the soap’s biggest and most shocking twists ever. Her young brother Bobby Beale, who was just 10 years old at the time, accidentally killed her when he threw a jewellery box at her. He didn’t even realise he’d killed her as she lay dead on the ground, after being struck on the head and killed instantly. Their stepmother Jane Beale discovered the crime and covered it up, becoming Bobby’s accomplice and not revealing all until the special flashback episode.

The mystery of who killed Lucy Beale turned Albert Square upside down. Last night, EastEnders fans saw the return of a character they thought they had laid to rest. It was all due to the fact that Bobby, her brother and killer , is being haunted by the memory of what he did four years ago. The episode saw Bobby first turn to Max Branning, who was secretly involved with Lucy when she died, looking for answers to how he was feeling. But Branning soon mellowed, trying his best to comfort the boy.
